if it is facelifted model - 300D, if pre-facelifted - 240D |

There was no bigger facelift for the W 123. It has US-bumpers and trims with chrome underneath the back lamps. The upper versions (280, 300) had them, not the more simple omes like 200, 230, 220 D. I don't know, how it was for export-markets. Were the basic versions (so with just plastic trims there) exported to the USA? I say, it's a 300 Diesel, US-version. |

The only W123 series cars sold 'officially' by Mercedes in the US market were: 230(sedan 1977-78?), 240D(1977-83), 280E/CE(1977-80?), 300D/CD/TD(non-turbo 5 cyl diesel 1977-81), 300D-T/CD-T/TD-T (5 cyl turbo diesel 1982-85) so this is either a 240D or 300D. |
