This was my car. It’s a 1973 Datsun 610. My grandpa bought it new in Glendale CA. My grandpa died and it then was registered to my grandma. She died in 1981 and she never drove it, she never learned to drive, and I received the car in 1982 from my auntie after probate was finished. I sadly had it repainted and that paint faded. I even accidentally ran over one of the original hub caps. In 1994 after a back injury in 1991 and wanting a car with an automatic transmission, I gave it to my brother where not soon after the rear main seal failed. My brother and my dad overhauled it and sadly the day before my brother was going to register the car, it was towed away. I believe it’s up in the San Francisco Bay Area to this day if it still survives.

The car with automatic I also received from my auntie Elsie after her neighbor became unable to drive. It was an orange 1972 Datsun 510 wagon in near mint condition. I sold that for 4K 12/2006 to a sailor out of San Diego. He fixed it up and changed the transmission to manual. I miss having a Datsun. A Datsun is only fun when you have a good mechanic that lives and breathes Datsuns. My Datsun guy moved back to Texas after Garden Grove took his property in a eminent domain. The land sat fallow for years.

Oh, my auntie gave me her 1989 loaded Nissan Maxima in 2002, because she had two cars and was going to drive my late uncle’s car (he died in 1999), after my 1998 Toyota Corolla’s lease was up. The 510 was stranding me at work and I needed a more reliable commuter car. I eventually gave my mom the maxima and drove the 510.

In 2006 my stepmother gave me my current car, a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport because I was moving to Arkansas and she needed a 4 door suv to easier put her grandchildren in, and I was selling the 510 because it needed to stay in California.

I fully expect to receive someone’s unneeded car when the Explorer dies, because that’s how I’ve always gotten my cars lol.
