GAZ is the maker's name, 41-08 the vehicle's name, SA-9 special name for rocket launcher version, and 'Gaskin' the NATO code name for the SAM rocket. In the version used as armoured reconnaissance vehicle it is called GAZ 41-08 BRDM-2. /vehicle_14605-GAZ-41-08-1963.html BRDM-2 means it is the second version of a 'Boyevaya Razvedyvatelnaya Dosornaya Mashina' (Боевая Разведывательная Дозорная Машина) which translates to 'combat reconnaissance patrol vehicle'. After 4 years.... SA-9 and moreover "Gaskin" is NATO designation. Actual name of SAM system on it is 9К33 "Strela-1" |
