The base vehicle is a Commer R-Series Mk.I (1948-51). I am not yet sure about the body and fire fighting equipment manufacturer. I found no reference for Merryweather on Commer chassis. Perhaps it was made by HCB. |

Well done on spotting it is a Mk I. Seems to be a very similar body to this one here - http://www.commer.org.nz/Engfireengines.html - body builder unknown but will email the former owner to see if he knows. I have never heard of a Commer with Merryweather bodywork. Main body builder was Carmichael - these were exported everywhere including my country - New Zealand - we have one still in our local town that is used once a month for training! Other body builders on Commers were Whitson, Cuerden, HCB, Jennings, Coopers and Kerrs. Check out other Commer fire engines including some beautifully bodied Netherlands fire engines and other Commer stuff at my Commer web site www.commer.org.nz |

11 years late answer is-- This is a Vincent bodied machine . (More famous for horse box bodies) Reg.no. GRX35 belonged to Berkshire and Reading Fire Brigade. Fast machine and well thought of , its sister GRX36 had a second life at Blackbushe airport see link below- http://www.fire-engine-photos.com/picture/number16295 -- Last edit: 2017-03-09 09:56:33 |
