I think this is a 105 1956+, probably 105S as the 105R wasn't very popular. |

According to my info the 105 S (and R) came in Autumn 1956 (also the first date for the version with indicators plus separate side lights). In Autumn 1957 the 90 and 105s got side chrome to enable duo tone painting. So I'd rather guess this is a 1957 (only) 105 S... |

It probably isn't worth arguing about, but the registration suggests late 1956 to me. A family friend bought a Mk.I 3.4 Jaguar in late '56 with the London registration ULE 203, which would have been issued either at the same time as TXW 404 or later. |

Late 1956 would be model year 1957, so we totally agree, don't we? |

Well, yes ... I don't think we bothered much with model years in the UK in the 50s. If the car was bought in 1956, it was a 1956 car; it would be advertised as such, for example when sold second-hand. Possibly at the 1956 Earl's Court Motor Show (if there was one - it might have been cancelled due to the Suez crisis) manufacturers might have described their new models as 1957, but at that time I'd have thought it was an American marketing ploy. |
