The overriding reason for this is because the center "0" in the 500 concealed the trunk's keyhole. Retooling this keyhole cover and along with it the large chrome "V" would have mean large costs being incurred by the Company. It was decided to leave it as is both to contain production costs and for the obvious brand identity associated with the name "Fairlane 500". Many people refer to the Galaxie series cars as "Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxies", a moniker which may well be appropriate. 1959 was the only year that the Galaxie line carried a "Fairlane 500" identification as well. -- Last edit: 2009-05-07 15:46:45
