Coburn made no attempt to speak French, perhaps he didn't realise he was in France. But more likely he had grasped he didn't have to bother, because as an American movie star he belonged to a royal house that still ruled. Finally, he won a host of patriotic Parisian hearts by relegating all the English cars to second place. He gave the grand price to a pre-war French Delage."
