jwramc is right. It's a 64 1/2 Mustang. I remember reading somewhere that it's even a very, very early production car (maybe even pre-production) car given to the producers because Ford wanted to showcase it's new Mustang. It's the very first appearence of a Mustang in a movie. Ford also supplied most of the other featured cars in the movie (the Thunderbird, Ranchero, and the Lincoln that was smashed into a cube). Their are a number of real differences between the 1964 1/2 and 1965 model Mustangs. They include having a generator charging system vs. alternator, a 170ci six (U-code), a 260 2V (F-code), or a 289 4V (D-code) low-compression, unimproved hood leading edge, large horns mounted down on the frame behind the radiator, a brake light pressure switch on the master cylinder, a center "off" heater fan switch and a generator charge light. These are all pretty much exclusive to Mustangs built between early March and July 31, 1964. |

Not a 1965,but a 1964(puisque Goldfinger date de 64).By the way,the very first appearence of a Mustang in a movie was in"Le gendarme de Saint-Tropez",because it was a pre-production car). |

Movie released in September 1964, so a 1964½ mustang is possible. But again the problem: should we list these as 1964 or as 1965... Were there 1964 Mustang? If not, we would list the 1964½ as 1964, and I can add something to add the ½ after the year in that special case But on Wikipedia they mention: -- Last edit: 2006-09-29 16:19:51 |

The VIN on every 1964 1/2 Mustang starts with a 5, so they are all technically 1965 models. There had never been a 1/2 model year designation before. The cars were called "early 1965s" and weren't called 1964 1/2s until much later. |

The radio antenna is on the left side, unlike the production model where it is on the right side. |

One of the first movies ever made to have the Mustang seen in it. |

Are we allowed by the VIN-ultras to have a 1964 Mustang Pre-production? |

No. |

Observation: The gold '65 fastback that didn't make it to the movie bears the VIN 5F09A322626. Obviously a car from later in production - and the photos I've found of it show it without an antenna on either fender - but it remains indicative that this car was likely given a 5F VIN just the same. FYI, promo shots do exist of the car, with the antenna prominently on the left fender: Link to "www.insearchofmustangs.org" I've read on Mustang sites that early cars often had the antennas installed by the dealer wherever they chose. Could be the case here (and just by chance, documented in a notable film). -Kurt -- Last edit: 2013-02-25 07:20:00 |

"Pre-production" should be in extra info. |
