If not a locally assembled one, it looks like a Mexican built 1200 from around 1983 (due the colour). I don't know the name of the colour, but it's on the 1983 Typ 1 of my best friends wife. |

Ingo, do you think this is Yugoslavia made? |

As I've learned here, the Typ 1 was assembled there, too, before they made the Golf I, II and Caddy, but I don't know in which years. I think, not after 1978, when the production in Germany had stopped and the European market was delivered with Mexican made Beetles, but the experts of Balkan-assembled cars maybe know more. |

Made in TAS (Tvornica Automobila Sarajevo - Sarajevo Car Factory) under the name Volkswagen Buba TAS. Same factory produced Golf I & II. For list of cars produced in ex-Yugoslavia, see: http://www.index.hr/forum/default.aspx?q=t&idf=25&idt=166124 -- Last edit: 2009-10-23 17:57:01 |

The first Yugoslavian catch for my collection: Link to "cgi.ebay.de" ![]() ![]() @Serbian: due the times of Yugoslavian assembling of the Typ 1, there was still an export from Germany. I've read it in the VW-export-statistics from 1971 to 1974, of which I'm owning copies. Back to topic: this Typ 1, shown here, is not a 1973-YU-assembled version ![]() -- Last edit: 2009-11-04 19:26:52 |

@ingo: You're probably right about Mexico (as I'm not an expert on VW), but I must tell you that the official language in Yugoslavia wasn't called Yugoslavian, but Serbo-Croatian. Probably confusing for a foreigner ![]() -- Last edit: 2009-11-20 11:39:01 |

@ingo: If this is Mexican assembled, the indicator on the bumper would have introduced in 1977 model year. You may be correct that is 1983 version due to the color... |

@Serbian: I know. I had thought about it, when I wrote the posting. After I saw, the the seller from Slovenija also wrote "Yugoslavian language", I thought, it could be correct to use this term. @Serbian: have you seen, that this lady right now offers a book about 20 years car-production in Serbia? It's from 1975. I guess, something really rare. ![]() @DynaMike @DAF555: and a DAF 44-brochure in Serbo-Kroatian language. Rare, too, I would say. The Ford Cortina-brochure, too, because it's in German. -- Last edit: 2009-11-20 15:49:08 |

Could someone please change the flag from Yugoslavia to Mexico? Thanks! |

The indicator went from the fender to the bumper in 1975. The European Typ 1-production ended in 1978. The cars, sold in Europe afterwards, were all produced in Mexico. In Germany in 1985 the last Typ 1 was officially imported. In the mid-90ies it started again, due the activities of private importers. There were also a few "Harlekin"-versions, similar to the special Polo 6N-edition. After that it was getting quiet again, until 2003. In this year some "Ultima Edicion" were imported again, enough, that a Club for it was founded. The car in the VW "AutoStadt" is not the only one. |

@ingo: Brochures like this one weren't so rare. Yugoslavia used to be a big market (~25 million people), so the foreign car companies often had interrest in making brochures in local language. A friend of mine had a Renault brochure in Serbo-Croatian, but I think he threw it away (and when you think, he could have earned some money by selling it ![]() The seller probably wrote "Yugoslavian", so that the foreign buyers would automaticaly understand what's the country of origin. -- Last edit: 2009-11-21 13:52:34 |

@Serbian: that sounds good. I would be very pleased, if you could have a look for any things, related with "my" car. ![]() ![]() No, usually you cannot make money with this kind of literature - except you'll find some loopy nerds, who are collecting really everything about one special model. Like me. ![]() |

@ingo: Roger that. If and when I bump on to something (preferably VW-related ![]() P.S. F#ck money, I'm glad to help. -- Last edit: 2009-11-22 17:39:30 |

To the administrators: since we've reached the conclusion this one is made in Mexico, there is no further need for the suffix 'Buba' which is used for the ones made in YU. |
