Is it a Morris Oxford? I'm not sure at all.

This car is not a Morris Oxford, but the cheaper version, a Morris Cowley.

Recognition points, no chrome strips in radiator grille, in windscreen surround, and along flanks of car.

Thanks for your comment, Johnfromstaffs. The things you mentioned were exactly those which irritated me, especially the radiator grille.

Glad to be of help.

My Dad bought a new Morris Cowley, registered PUK 394, in October 1955 to replace a well worn 1939 Citroen Traction Avant. The Morris was Empire Green, (a bit lighter than British Racing Green) and cost £702. For another £38 he could have had an Oxford, with another 300cc, leather seats, a heater and the extra chrome, but he said he could not afford it! The car was so slow with the 1200cc engine that he spent more than £38 having a 1500cc engine retrofitted, and fitted an aftermarket heater himself. Following that car were two Oxfords, a Minor 1000, a Farina Cambridge, and three 1800s. There was also a Standard Vanguard in which I took my driving test, and a Triumph 2000.

The Cowley in Bruno's picture looks like it is Clarendon Grey, and has been fitted with extra chrome strips to make the grille look like that of an Oxford, overriders and wing mirrors. As you can see, it was a very plain car.
