1981+ R20 TS (Fuego rims (optional?), small front wheel arches), but not sure. |

It hasn't chrome strips around rear lights and side windows, so it must be a 20. But which? Those wheels are accessoires (known from R18 Turbo, Fuego GTX/TurboD and R30 TurboD). As you know by doorhandles and fuel filler cap it's model 1977, by bumper- and side strips 1978, by dashboard, headrests and plastic under doors 1981. Wheels with 4 holes say LS, TS, TX, TD or GTD. Small wheel arches say L, TL, GTL, TD or GTD. Bumper and site strips are luxury trim. So it must be a 1981/82 R20 GTD with optional rims indeed. |

Hmm, I found pictures of model 1981 and 1983 R20 TS, they show big wheel arches. |

According to the book 'La Fête des Limousines' ( http://www.xmclub.nl/declub/clubshop/Fete%20des%20limousines.jpg ): "Voor modeljaar 1981 (vanaf september 1980) staat de enige belangrijke facelift van de Renault 20 en 30 op het programma. (....) De TS krijgt een kleiner formaat wielen met bijpassende spatborden." So I think it could be either a TS with optional rims or (less likely imo) a GTD with other alloy rims than factory provided. Here another R20 TS with the same alloys (second pic): Link to "www.forum-auto.com" |

You're right, I searched for my example of this book and it says the TS had small wheel arches from 1981, but some Dutch car year books (Autotest and Autovisie) doesn't show that in '81 or '83. On the net I found 81/82/83 GTD's with small arches and TS' with different wings. Strange, some may be changed later or Renault changed its mind during production, what they did more often. I'll search for the book's source like a 1980 Renault Press document. Thanks for your info, 929V6. And what about this 1981 TS, looks brand new: /vehicle_85454-Renault-20-X27-1981.html |
