This scene was based on the Siege of Freetown, a massive battle for the control of the Sierra Leonean Capital of Freetown between members of Revolutionary United Forces (RUF) and Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) against the members of the Sierra Leonean Government Kabbah Loyalist forces and Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) that took place during the Sierra Leone Civil War. In reality, the siege begun on the 25th May 1997 and concluded on the 6th February 1998. According to the reports taken at the time, the siege began when the president of Sierra Leone, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah was deposed from power by the leader of the AFRC and former Sierra Leone soldier, Johnny Paul Koroma who was made head of state. In response, Kabbah Loyalist forces attacked and removed Koroma from power and restored Kabbah to power, prompting the AFRC's ally, the RUF to attack the capital, only to be repel back by Kabbah Loyalist forces. -- Last edit: 2024-11-26 06:11:16 |
