What was their so-called "complaint" about it? Just it's style or something else too?

Completely because of the styling. Otherwise clarkson had no complaints with it and i quote from clarkson from the DVD:
"In many ways the Scorpio wasn't a bad car. It was well made, extremely well equipped and considering it's size, it was good value for money. BUT, for some reason it went on sale with a face of such unparalleled awfulness,; that very few people ever actually bought one."
SO yeah all because of it's looks.

Which demonstrates just how much of an utter moron Clarkson is, he admits himself that it is a good car and destroys it for his completely subjective minor gripe about it's styling. Total waste...

Again, I can never understand the backlash on the styling on this. The front end is unusual, but I don't find it ugly and most people I've spoken to don't hold strong feelings towards them. For a car to be truly UGLY, it has to be ugly from all angles, like a Scion XB/Toyota BB for example. The front end of the Scorpio is an acquired taste I will accept, but the side profile of it is a very inoffensive and conventional saloon/sedan. I don't see how anybody could think it's particularly ugly there.

However, on the positive side, this car actually came off pretty well after being thrown from 150 ft and landing on its front. The crumple zone worked well and the doors and cabin were largely intact. Impressive for a car of its age.

You guys better hope that Jeremy Clarkson isn't reading any of your comments or he will drop another Ford Scorpio of a crane.

I doubt it. My comment is hardly aggressive enough to warrant that.

I'm not one to get angry about in the same vein as the "Fast Marina Magazine" people. I watch Top Gear on occasion and have bought several Jeremy Clarkson annual VHS/DVDs over the years. I agree with most of Jeremy Clarkson's opinions on bad cars, but have always done and will continue to defend the Scorpio as I simply fail to understand how anybody could have a strong dislike for it. I don't hate him nor do I particularly care about the demise of this Scorpio - they're not rare, they're not old and there's plenty of them around. There's been far more valuable cars destroyed by Clarkson and co., like the TVR Chimaera for example.

Still lots of the salvageable parts on this car but I doubt anyone will have the chance to use them, as we the British are sadly obsessed with crushing cars rather than putting them to good use.

To be honest the sides and the rear aren't exactly attractive either.

leoz wrote There are so many people in the UK who completely detest Clarkson, yet I find his style of humor hillarious

He's very much a love-or-hate celebrity. A lot of people also find him entertaining.

My problem with the Scorpio is how Ford put so much effort into redesigning its predecessor without realising that they'd made it worse. Didn't anyone notice?

The Scorpio is know as unreliable - now this is a fact Clarkson could have used if he was smart - but its design is not an objective reason to destroy it. In fact the Scoprio is a cheap luxury car which works well if you take care of it and buy a later model, and it has a lot of comfort.
