Looks like a circa 1957-8 Studebaker Hawk with the roof cut off. |

Yes! Quite interesting. Studebaker did not build any Hawk convertibles. This is a modified vehicle. Would like to see the front, but it almost looks like a '55 with grafted-on Hawk rear/fins. |

These two extra pics maybe can help something. In 1st. thumbnail looks there is some script in front fender. The 2nd shows the rear but the scene was changing and isn't clear |

That rear shot helps, Vilero. I am now more certain this is a modified '55. The taillights look like '55 units as does the trunk lid and ornmentation. The front side trim dipping down below the headlights like that is non-stock. I would list this as "1955 Studebaker modified", pending any more info. |

Maybe the coachbuilder Chapron had something to do with it. I believe he was renowned for taking the roofs off things. |

Tail lights look more like a Packard Hawk- 57 or 58. |

It seems this one is a product of the merged company Studebaker-Packard Corporation and convertible made by french coachbuilder, probably Chapron, as nzcarnerd said. The metalic badge on the rear (2nd. thumbnail) is clearly for Studebaker and the taillights could be for both '58 Packard and Studebaker ('57 or '58. The movie is from 1958) Packard seems had the spare wheel shape on the rear and didn't the Studebakers. The car is too nice to leave it 'unknown'. Comments? |

I'm very surprised nothing can be found about this marvellous cabriolet... The soft-top looks very similar to the Renault Frégate by Letourneur & Marchand. |

Look very closely at the taillamps in the lower right hand B&W thumbnail. You will notice they are one-piece vertical units that look very like 1955 Studebaker taillamps to me. This is not a Packard Hawk unless it has been very heavily modified. I continue to believe this creation started out as a 1955 Studebaker, with 1957 or 1958 fins being grafted on. The trunk lid carries '54/55 style ornamentation. -- Last edit: 2010-02-17 22:06:52 |

I agree with Commander 57 Taillamps and deck lid are most certianly 1955, The fins which would bolt on appear to came off a '57 or slightly later Silver Hawk, Golden Hawks and Packard Hawks had bolt on fin panels that were pointed on the front like in the photos sent by valero. I would guess it was modified in France also, I have never seen anything like it in the US and I've had Studebakers for 30 years. |

I agree with Commander 57. This started out as a 1955 Studebaker and 1957-58 fins were added, probably when converted into a convertible. It's quite an interesting car though. It would be fun to know if this car or other European convertible conversions have survived. |
