It appears to have the very long 144 inch wheelbase of the Pierce-Arrow group A cars and a partition divider window inside.I go for a 1930 Pierce-Arrow Straight Eight 7 passenger limousine ( 57th model , A group with the 132 hp engine) |

But isn't that a coffin in the rear ? |

Yes , with close up you are right, good spotting , I should have noticed the board with "Matthews undertaking parlors" behind the car.Took the coffin for a seat...Nevertheless it still looks a ca 1930 Pierce-Arrow Straight Eight on a long wheelbase thus more probably a commercial chassis although it looks very much like a limousine, but I do not have documents on Pierce- Arrow commercials except trucks. |

I checked this one with the Pierce-Arrow Society. Apparently it is a 1932 Pierce-Arrow with a hearse body by either Henney or Superior. Hopefully more information to come. I had noticed there was a slight vee in the radiator which made it later than 1930 - but wasn't sure of the year. |

This info I received today - it may also be of some help in identifying some other hearses. "The 32 Pierce I believe is a Superior. At that time Pierce and Studebaker were together and Studebaker and Superior were also. Henney didn't start using other than their own untill 1933. My 836A is a 34 but Henney called it a 35 Arrowline model 1200. of course you could put ANY body on ANY chassis if ordered but I believe Pierce in 32 would be a Superior. The wheelbase on my Henney and Eureka Pierce's are appx.160". The body co. lengthened the chassis and added a carrier bearing with an extra cross member and driveshaft. A little Henney History, in 34 were ECONOMY-Pontiac chassis, Progress-Oldsmobile, 800 series- Packard, Arrowline-Pierce Arrow. I believe they went exclusively with Packard in late 36. Henney- Brantford in Canada still built on any chassis, LaSalle, Cadillac, etc. Some 36 Henney Arrowlines were built but I have only seen photos, no real ones. Hope this helps! Correct, and these models were marketed as 'Pierce-Superior'. |
