The 1930 Vivasix (in England) did have a coupe de ville option. Why mess about with it?

Because this film was made in the United States during the Second World War, and the studio had to make do with what it had.

Fritz Lang didn't have much control over this one. It's still a slightly above average film - with most other directors it would have been total garbage.

This thing is documented in : " Mécanique populaire " avril 1951 n° 59 on page 47.It is again one of the movie hire cars of the de Noria collection of the Pacific Auto Rentals Inc in Hollywood. They provided several cars in US movies as Topper , the Great Gatsby , Sunset Boulevard. The text above this car says "An Aston Martin , frequently used taxi ( in movies)to create a London atmosphere." .Before expressing an opinion ,I would like to see the naked chassis first . Probably not as popular as OO7's DB but one can still dream of a sporting taxicab!

A little hard to believe indeed. It does look French. I'll make it "Aston Martin unknown" for now.

There is no more chance of that thing having any connexion with Aston Martin than of me becoming Tazio Nuvolari. The longest Aston Martin produced before WW2 was the 1934+ 15/98 Mk II Long, with a 120" wheelbase, and produced only as a 2 door sports saloon or as a drophead coupe. This vehicle shows no signs of any AM design quirks and is far too high off the ground, never mind the steel wheels. The resemblance to the Renault, as suggested above is much more likely.

Popular Mechanics obviously knew as much about cars as the average film producer.

I don't see any signs of Renault in that ... not french up to me.

Compare with a 1930-32 KZ, or a 1930-32 Vivasix/Vivastella, especially looking at the design of the wheels, rear mudguards, and the shape of the roof at the rear above and behind the back door. The front of the car has been altered.
