Cruiser Tank Comet (A34),built by Leyland, no series Marks...this one is attatched to 1st royal Tank regiment and has the tactical mark of "British troops In Berlin" to the right fender (as you look at vehicle from front).powered by Rolls Royce Meteor petrol engine, used by the British Army until 1958,the South African Army into the 1980s, the Finns from 1970 to 2007 (the majority of those in preservation on the collector market are ex Finn), the Irish Army used 8 bought in 1959 and used to 1969. Currently as of 2009 the only country to still have the Comet on active service is Mynamar (Burma),although they have been modified with US M60 machine gun in hull and commander cupola modified to take a pintle mount for US M60 machine gun. -- Last edit: 2009-11-30 03:41:39 |
