This is not a BMW 327 , but a EMW 327/2 Cabriolet built by IFA in Dresden eastern Germany from mid 1952 to 1955. As the first thumbnail shows it has the cowl-hinged alligator hood opening in one piece that was introduced on this model in mid 1952. The former EMW 327/1 built from 1948 to 1952 and prewar BMW 327 Cabriolets had lateral opening hood panels ,those being fixed on a central bar .Whereas the EMW 327/1 and BMW 327 had rear hinged " suicide" doors ,the EMW/2 Cabriolet had front hinged doors opening in the safe direction as seen here |

Pilou, I thought so too, and I wasn't sure about the hood. But I've found several pics of pre-war BMW and post-war BMW/WMW 327 Cabriolets with non-suicide doors. Actually all Cabriolets had these. The suicide doors were only on the earlier Coupé versions. I'd say the car shown here is a pre-war BMW, because of the trafficator that is clearly visible in the third thumbnail (between hood and door). The post-war models had indicator lights under the headlamps, and no trafficators anymore. See also Ralphs comment about the shape of the hood here: /vehicle_68155-BMW-327-Cabriolet-1937.html (he says the the EMW hood opens without taking the side grille with it). -- Last edit: 2009-12-08 16:38:18 |
