The Fifth Avenue double decker in the photo is not a Model 720 but a model 735. The 735's were used exclusively in New York and were six inches higher than the 720's. The 720's were only assigned to Chicago Motor Coach to negotiate the many low slung underpasses in that city. A handful of 720's also went to New York for use on the #15 Jackson Heights route into Manhattan because of the low Roosevelt Avenue elevator structure. You can see in the two photos above how different the shapes of the roof were. |
