Location is Nieuwmarkt in Amsterdam. In the thumb you can see a part of a 15th century town gate (St. Anthoniespoort) that was turned into the city balance house (Waag) and guild hall for several professions, in the early 17th century. Here we see the entrance of the painters guild hall, with Saint Luke above the door.
The street organ is made by Parel, so for sure it will have had a role in the movie. It could be that it was self-propelling already (be means of a moped engine), in which case it would deserve its own page. But back in the 50s it most probably was still moved by hand.
