2000-2002 model. Starting with the 1999 model year, the "4-wheel-drive Auto" (all-wheel-drive) mode was permanently engaged. 4-wheel-drive Auto with high range gearing: The center differential (electronically controlled electromagnetic multi-disc wet clutch) was rear differential bias, sending most of the engine’s torque to the rear drive wheels. If one of the rear drive wheels lost traction, the center differential would send a share of the engine’s torque to the front differential, powering the front wheels. The center differential would not allow the front driveshaft & rear primary driveshaft to rotate at the same speed, thus it could be used on dry pavement. |
