Due the higher chrome of the rear bumper seen here I'm thinking in a 72 Ford Custom. The not seen front makes me doubt between Custom and Custom 500 (all cromed front borders) but as it's a Police car I suppose it was a 'normal' Custom Four-Door Sedan [54B].Comments? |

The SFPD cop cars of that era is usually a Mopar (either a Fury III or a Monaco/Polara); the cop car that pulls up in this scene outside the Palancio warehouse is a 72 Custom 500 and in another cut, the cop car switches to a 1968 Ford (the front door has a vent wing; Ford eliminated the vent wings on its base sedans in 1970)... |

The 72 Fords used in Magnum Force weren't real SFPD units on loan but were civilian cars painted up for the film. For example, the unit in this picture has a door edge guard kit installed on the body sides. PD's almost never bought those. The car in this pic isn't a base model Custom, as it has wheel well arch moldings and those only came like this on the Custom 500 as standard equipment. Not a Galaxie, as those have a rocker molding. One of the unmarked 72 Ford PD cars in this movie has a door edge guard painted over. |
