Two questions: - Is Sedan Delivery a proper model name? - match this side trim with 1958 (Tudor-2Door) Ranch Wagon? |

Sedan Delivery isn't a model name, it's a vehicle type (like station wagon or convertible). Here's another, rather blurry shot, but just enough to make out the '57 tail lights. This also shows part of what could be a "Country Sedan" nameplate but I wasn't sure enough about that to call it that when I posted the pic. I would've otherwise guessed Ranch Wagon based on the two doors.![]() -- Last edit: 2010-03-09 19:53:54 |

Believe it or not, some of these were called Couriers. |

This may very well be a Courier, I Googled "1957 Ford Courier" and found a few just like this one. |

From Ford Forums (see 1st. info in the upper side of the page) "Ford Courier From 1952 to 1958 the Ford Courier was marketed as a "sedan delivery" designated body code 78A, and was based on the contemporary sedan and station wagon designs. During the 1957 and 1958 model year, a windowed variant of the Courier was marketed for fleet orders and a number were produced primarily for Government services." |

I never knew that, but sure enough this 1957 Ford brochure calls it a Courier (although the side trim is different): http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=44623&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 |

Actually, I think this is a 1958 model based on the trim. See this 1958 Ranch Wagon for reference: /vehicle_240140-Ford-Ranch-Wagon-59A-1958.html EDIT: And this 1958 Courier has '57 style taillights: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3138463 And another more stock '58 Courier with '57-esque taillights: http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2007-10-17_H0758CourierWeb-Large.jpg -- Last edit: 2010-03-09 20:44:03 |

Looks to be a mixture of 57 and 58. The thumbnail provide by tv boy looks is for 57 taillights (or simply is some blurry) but, about the trim I initially thought in 1958 Ranch Wagon Tudor Two Door Station Wagon [59A] Also here http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=80171 |

Could this be the result of a factory changeover at the end of the '57 and beginning of the '58 model year? I've heard of things like that. |

All the 1958 Couriers I can find have taillights like this. I think Ford just continued to use the 1957 rear end for the 1958 Couriers. It was probably cheaper than adapting the new rear end for a low-volume product like the Courier. The people who would buy a sedan delivery also probably wouldn't be as concerned about having the most up-to-date styling as a station wagon buyer would be. I know Cadillac did similar things with their limousine bodies sometimes. http://www.allamericanclassics.com/pics/project/58fordsdndly.html |

This has been quite an eye opener! Thanks for the assist. |

All 1958 Fords had the 4 tail light array, except for the Courier and the Ranchero, which had the 1957 tail lights. |

I've found another one, in "Oh, God" (1977) 2/10 clip on YT, passing in car window behind John Denver. |
