Ford and Monarch were separate brands sold at the same dealerships. For example, today you buy a Mercury at a Lincoln-Mercury dealer (sorry, I don't know a good European example). As Pilou explains [url=http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_43410-Monarch-Club-Coupe-1949.html]: "Monarch has to be considered as a make of its own , as is also Meteor. In postwar Canada , Ford dealers were separated from Mercury-Lincoln dealers .The Monarchs were sold by the Canadian Ford dealers to allow them to sell a higher priced cars and were badge engineered Mercurys .The Meteors were sold by the Mercury-Lincoln dealers to allow them to sell a lower priced car and were badge engineered Fords. This policy allowed Ford of Canada to expand its dealers coverage. As a consequence Monarchs have sometimes been called Ford Monarchs and Meteors Mercury Meteors ( confusing the picture with the sixties Mercury Meteors ) but they are makes of their own with specific badges , and are listed as separate makes in all encyclopedias." -- Last edit: 2010-04-06 19:46:52 |
