Doesn't look like a Mercedes at all. But it could be a special model built by some coach builder...

I agree. I don't think it is a Mercedes at all. Too low and right hand drive is utterly implausible. Also the hood vents, bumpers, hubcaps, etc. Too many details are non-Mercedes and actually no details really are. also, a Mercedes of this size and era would have a distictively positive camber to the rear wheels courtesy of the swing-axle.

The closest thing I can find is a mid 1930s 170 but again the details are wrong. The only thing right is the dang three pointed star on the bonnet :/

Based on VW Typ 1 platform?

yes! because how often has someone seen a mercedes with such a FLAT grille?

well, the early ones, 1901, 1902 and so.

but later I know just ONE with a flat grille: the 630 from 1929. and it was a HUGE car.

no mercedes. I think, this one is kind of scratch-built.

I found another one with a FLAT grille in my books. roadster 260, stuttgart 1928.

same bumper as the one of tghe RIGHT car above.

as junkman wrote: bumper and hubcaps dont fit ... and I would say: headlight ar too big for that era.

but: nice try!
