1961 (?) Vauxhall Victor F phase III. I think it's a '61 phase III, but I'm not absolutely sure ! |

Now I looked on a book and I'm sure this is a 1961 Vauxhall Victor F (phase III) |

According to Wikipedia, and my own recollection, this is actually a Victor [F] Series II, 1959+. (I rented one of the last, an Estate, in 1961.) |

Woah, they actually sold cars here as Vauxhall!? |

Indeed. They were sold by Pontiac dealers. |

What models did they sell here? Only the Victor? |

It's a bit confusing, but seems US only received Victors but CDN got Victors, Velox, Cresta and early Viva - sometimes with UK names or for brief periods as Pontiac Envoy (Victor) and Pontiac Epic (Viva HA - this Epic name was also used in F as Renault had trademarked Viva name). Some info out there, but may not be full story. Quote - "The Vauxhall Victor was sold in the United States by Pontiac Dealers from 1957 throughh 1961, when Vauxhall was withdrawn from the US market in order for General Motors to concentrate their efforts on the Opel, sold by Buick dealers. However, sales continued in Canada through Pontiac-Buick dealers throughout the 1960s. The Envoy was a badge engineered version available through Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealers. Here, you can see some of the subtle differences from year to year, as well as the unique bits on the Envoy! See some of the period advertisements, too. Note: The brands are distinctly separate - no Vauxhall badges are used on Epics or Envoys and vice versa. I use both brands in the titles of the photos to help people find both when searching for one or the other." - from this brochure album - https://www.flickr.com/photos/njsimca/sets/72157623769990640/ - by our old friend njsimca. |
