This is not an US car. It is a South African Chevrolet derived from the German Opel Rekord E1 |

I know - I mentioned it on the series main page. But it's left hand drive, which seems ever so slightly impossible for a South African Opel-based Chevrolet. |

When I was living in Zaire between 1980 and 1990, now-a-day Congo, we had lot of Opel car with the Chevrolet logo. All where coming from Brasil and some with LHD from South-Africa. |

"In South Africa the model was sold as a Chevrolet until 1982, when it was rebadged as an Opel. Delta Motor Corporation, which bought out GM's South African subsidiary after it divested from the country in 1986, produced EII model until the early 1990s. Later South African Rekords featured the Opel badge above the grille, similar to the smaller Kadett." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Rekord So, Chevrolet Rekord 1978+ origin Germany, built in South Africa, like that ones: /vehicles.php?make=Chevrolet&model=Rekord&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on -- Last edit: 2010-05-09 21:56:42 |

@cibup: The fact that this car is left hand drive means that it was not made for the South African domestic market. That's why this car is a bit of a mystery. |

Too many left hand drive cars to be filmed in South Africa, not? So I don't know, maybe a South American Chevrolet badged version of the Opel Rekord, but also strange. But for sure not USA model origin, because it's an Chevrolet badged Opel Rekord, so German model origin. -- Last edit: 2010-05-09 22:30:41 |

They used the rusty Citroen DS and the three door Fiat Uno (both as taxis) precisely because there were so few left hand drive cars available. -- Last edit: 2010-05-09 23:03:26 |

Another strange detail is the Diesel hood. According to senatorman.de the Chevrolet Rekord was only available with a petrol-operated Buick engine. |

It doesn't count, if it's built in ZA, Brazil, Germany or anywhere else, the US-flag is definetely wrong, as it's for sure a Rekord E-derivate (maybe the only "derivate"-parts is the logo...). |

Model origin Germany. |

Bumping - Chevrolet Rekord. |

P.S. Not made for ZA since it's left hand drive. yvon52 said in a comment above that they were exported to Zaire (an LHD market), but this one stayed at home for one reason or another. |
