This scene was the reenactment of the murder of Gale Benson who was slashed and then was buried alive by two men on the orders of Michael X outside the commune in Trinidad on the morning of 2nd January 1972. In the real life murder, a gang of five men including Michael X took Gale Benson for a walk outside they took her to a hole that was being dug out. When it reached 4 foot deep, one of the men asked her if she knew what the hole was for. When she shrugged, she was then told that the hole was for decomposed bodies and was then pushed into the hole and then attacked by two of the men with a cutlass and was then later asphyxiated by a combination of both soil and being jump on by some of the gang. Her body and the body of Joseph Skerritt were found on the 22nd February by police officers who were called to investigate a fire that started at the commune. Two of the men were charged and convicted for Gale Benson's murder, Stanley Abbott and Edward Chadee. Like Benson, both Abbott and Chadee had came to Trinidad from Britain, Abbott was a ex-soldier in the British Army, while Chadee was a car salesman. In reality, Michael X was convicted only for the murder of Joseph Skerritt and was executed by hanging at the Port of Spain Jail on the 16th May 1975. -- Last edit: 2022-08-07 15:28:22 |
