I cannot match it to an Italian truck, but it reminds me of a Spanish truck -- I think Pegaso from the 1950s. But I haven't found any reference for or against this idea. |

The grill reminds me of some of the smaller White Trucks of the late 1940s. |

could this be the base? ![]() both, the cabover and the conventional have the same crest at the grille, as it seems ... I found it in "Mussolini: Ultimo atto", a movie from 1974: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0071880/ :-)) martin p.s.: a clear view on it: ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-05-02 13:27:13 |

Found it: It is a Simca, most likely version F594 like this one: http://www.armymotorcars.com/html/simca_2.html |

If you change the aspect ratio of the image back to normal again, it looks much better: ![]() The wings are slightly different, but not a lot. All the other details fit beautifully: entrance step, lights, shape of the front (look at the mould below the windscreen), the windscreen frame itself, the small lid above the grille, etc. It might be a different, probably slightly older version. So far I have no reference about the Simca numbers. -- Last edit: 2006-05-09 13:40:17 |

It IS a Simca..one of 7 supplied to thwe film by Steve Lamonby in the UK, they converted them to look like WW2 Fiats..and even put V8 Ford Engines in them.they converted them to 4x4 and as well as filming with them, they were so reliable, they were used to tow other vehicles which had got stuck, and they were used by the film crew as scout and tow vehicles. They were all built, with the other vehicles,in 3 months, at Bray Studios in Middlesex in the UK and shipped out to Greece...some came back to the UK..and if you have the "Band Of Brothers" DVD set, look at the last CD,,the studio who built these replicas also built the fake german MkIV tanks for BOB. -- Last edit: 2008-01-29 17:54:27 |

Indeed 2491tj, At least one of these Simca F594 trucks still can be found on Kefalonia. Last summer I spotted this vehicle near a riverside close to the village of Makriotika. It was in a very bad shape (as you can see on the pictures) and definitely has not been used for a long time yet….. You also can find a picture of this truck on the site of Steve Lamonby (Plusfilm services): http://www.plusfilm.com/credits.php?c=2001 CAPTAIN CORELLIS MANDOLIN#credits/2001 CAPTAIN CORELLIS MANDOLIN/2 cc.jpg Below you will find some pictures I made on Kefalonia from this to a “Fiat”converted Simca. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also attached the point in Google earth were this Simca can be found: ![]() -- Last edit: 2015-07-12 23:02:43 |
