What really confused me is that the front numberplate is the modern one, black letters on white but the rear one was the classic black with silver...isn't that illegal? ![]() |

No, if the vehicle was first registered before 1.1.73 you can have whatever colour plates you like. |

Yes for the dating threshold, but front and rear should use same formats? This Stag owner can choose which he prefers, but has to use the same for both plates. |

In the case of the Lotus in Sandie's link - and the Elan in Wheeler Dealers, for that matter - they didn't have front number plates, the white plastic characters were simply attached to the wire grilles. (Edd and Mike fitted an old-style rear plate to their Elan.) |
