Just spent half an hour googling references to Panther Deville and Panther Deville coupe, and this one smells a bit funny - nothing definite, just a feeling that there would be more info out there if it was genuine. General consensus is about 60 Devilles built 1974-82/85, including 11 two-door convertibles, and 1 pink/gold six-door limousine. No direct mention of a factory-made coupe - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IDlFENwMMg for proof this is not convertible. But lots of references to the coupe used in 101/102 Dalmations, with the claim it had a Chevy V8 engine instead of the Jag 6/V12 engines used in other Devilles. Another oddity - DV saloons widely recognised as using doors from Austin/Morris 1800 or Maxi, and convertibles from Jag XJC coupe, but this looks a different door. Finally a pistonheads discussion - Link to "www.pistonheads.com" - which started with the claim "when I was at Disney years ago the guy said it was built especially for the film" but dried up without finding definite answers. So my guess is "Made for movie Panther De Ville replica". Anyone know any better? |

There was a coupe version Link to "www.traumautoarchiv.de").jpg but the rear end, the door, and the window, doesn't match, and this website says it was a modified Panther Deville sedan http://www.pantherclub.co.uk/deville.htm -- Last edit: 2011-12-13 00:26:30 |

tom11's link led me to "The DeVille for 101 Dalmations was converted from the standard car. They removed the rear doors and chopped up the boot area to get that strange rear end. They also removed the standard V12 Rolls Royce engine and replaced it with a Chevy block for some strange reason." - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=755385 . So itwas originally a genuine Deville saloon. It's now on show at Eurodisney, Paris - http://www.flickr.com/photos/69574134@N00/2262686912 . |

What exactly is the model used in either of the 2 films because It looks like a coupe and to short to modify from the 4 door version? Any ideas? |

It's great to see the car from fresh angles.Considering it's age since the movie was made it is still being kept in great condition despite the tyres ![]() |

I keep looking at this every so often to see if I can work out what bits were used for its conversion. I've been wondering about doors from a Ford Anglia 105E, and that last thumb smells as if the whole cabin was used, although with slight tweaking of the rear side windows to give a flatter roof line. Rear bumper in stronghold's thumb from 2006 looks cut down Jag Mk2, but different bumper seen on the 2013 display pics. I wonder how much of it was actually a Deville - shorter chassis, Anglia cabin, Chevy engine etc. Maybe they built a fake custom from scratch to look Deville-ish and only actually used the superficial shiny bits (grille, lights)..... |

If another 101 Dalamations live-action film is made, $50 says they'll have her drive a Cadillac Sedan/Coupe DeVille. |

I discovered, some years ago, that the real license plate of this De Ville is "NPK 31P". For more info read my comment here: /vehicle_10957-Panther-DeVille-1974.html |

Here's further info: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLgrKu9pX9R/ Here we have our very own George Newell on a visit to the Special Effects department at Shepperton Studios during the modification of a DV Saloon for the Disney Film - “102 Dalmatians”. Mr Newell commented: “I was asked to take my De Ville to the film studio. This was during the time when they were modifying Cruella's De Ville for the then upcoming “102 Dalmatians”. During Modification, they needed my car so they could see an original for comparison. At that time they were removing the Jaguar engine and installing an American muscle engine (Small Block V8). |

The car once stood on display at the entrance of the Studio Tram Tour at Disney Studios in Paris until it closed in 2020. I desperately want to know what they did with the car after the attraction closed. |
