Austin 1100 |

In http://www.aronline.co.uk/ I found: "Alongside the standard Austin 1100, South Africa also had an uprated, 55bhp version which was sold in Austin and Wolseley guises. Although this increased power output was equivalent to that produced by the twin-carb 1100s available in the UK, the 11/55 models took a different route to achieving their extra horses, having a single 1½in. carburettor, larger inlet valves, double spring valves and a modified air cleaner. The car continued in MkII form until the early 1970s, when it was replaced by the Austin Apache." ![]() I guess it would be a good idea to list this as Austin 11/55, right? |

I think Mk2 tail lights = 69+. This is either an Austin 11/55 or a Wolseley 11/55, both built Jan 68 until 1971. Two-tone may suggest Wolseley. |

Summary of ADO 16 in ZA: 1] 1962-63 Morris 1100 Mk1 door imports from UK until .... 2] 1963 Local assembly of Austin and MG 1100 Mk1 4 door 3] 1966 Wolseley 1100 4 door added to local assembly 4] 1967 Austin 1100 Countryman and Morris 1100 Traveller Mk1 added to local assembly (not totally convinced about the Morris inclusion but that's what it says here) 5] 1968 Austin 11/55 and Wolseley 11/55 added with higher spec and uprated engines. 6] 1968-69 Mk2 bodies introduced but exact date unconfirmed 7] All normal format ADO16s replaced by Michelotti restyle Austin Apache with long boot and bonnet, which had Standard and TC versions. TC had Rostyles and vinyl roof. 8] 1976 Apache 35 Special limited edition (300 cars only) - Harvest Gold with brown vinyl roof, Rostyles, Automatic only, special matt black grille, brown velour interior 9] 1978 all Apache production stopped - by this time these were apparently the last ADO16 derivatives anywhere in the world. |
