280SE convertible with 3.5 or 4.5 litre engine if late-type alloys are authentic? |

Yes, the alloys were available as an extra option (standard for a 300 SEL 6.3) [W111] |

Why it's listed as a 1966 250 SE? It it a W111 Convertible, but not an early (so a 250). It is for sure a later one, with the wider and lower grille. The grille is not really visible, but all other details, so the bumpers with rubbers and the wheels (the pre-1968 wheels and tires had other sizes) shows, that it's later one. So dsl is correct in my opinion. |

But it cannot be 1968 or newer, since there are no side markers. |

It's for sure not an early one. Could it be a private import? Or did private US-imports also had to have them mounted afterwards? Also typical for a late "Breitkühler" -"wide grille", the nickname for the late W111 (also used for the late Ponton and W108)- are the orange back indicators. The early W111 Coupé and Cabriolet had red one - also for their German version. For any reason (I don't know it) one of the very few cars in Germany with red back indicators. Some years later, still in the 60ies, they became illegal, so some W111 have exceptional permissions remarked in their papers. |

When did the 250-280 evolution produce chrome wheel-arch trim, chrome strips under the doors and rubber strips along the bumpers? This car has all three features. |
