This one has a story..Silver Wraith WD2. Built by Scottish Co Op. used in Scotland, then Yorkshire - hence its use in Emmerdale- it went to the U.S and was converted into a yellow van..now back in the UK and restored! |

I think you mean "WHD2". But if this is WHD2, I must have my history wrong. The registration number of this coach definitely matches my notes though. It's JGA 135. This episode premiered in 1972, which was when I thought the coach had already been modified. Here's what I thought had happened to WHD2... In 1960 WHD2 was purchased by an antique furniture dealer, Lansdownes Fyfield Manor, and heavily modified. LFM named WHD2 "The Lady Margarita", removed the glass side windows, paneled over this space, and painted her body a bright yellow with their hand painted logo and artwork of vintage furniture. LFM continued to use the coach as a delivery van, when in 1976, she was brought to America. Sometime during the next thirty years, the coach was restored back to its original Scottish Co-operative Society funeral coach configuration. WHD2 is now currently owned by John Duckworth Funeral Services in Southwick Sunderland. -- Last edit: 2012-05-02 03:56:33 |

I'm a funeral director with John Duckworth, and can confirm that she is currently a much loved and valued member of our little team. She can be a little temperamental at times, but that's an old lady's prerogative, I suppose. If I can work out how to post a photo, I will. ![]() |

Sold at Bonhams Olympia auction in December 2007 - "This standard-wheelbase, RHD chassis was sold new in 1950 for bodying as a hearse by the Scottish Co-operative Society, Rolls-Royce's biggest customer at that time...... used as a hearse in Glasgow before being sold to Yorkshire .... used by Yorkshire Television in the first episode of Emmerdale (Farm) broadcast on 25 June 1972..... later shipped to America where it was used by an antique furniture company for deliveries.. finished in bright yellow livery and named Lady Margaritta. Shipped back to UK in 2001 and fully restored at Cocheranes, of Durham, re-emerging in 2005." (JGA 135, chassis WHD2, engine WD2) - http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/15348/lot/633/ |

Strange aspect ratio in our picture makes it look a short dumpy thing. JGA 135 has just been modelled by ABC Brianza (ABC371) as an ultra-expensive 1:43 handbuilt, and if they've got it right (which for £230+ they bleeding well should; or kit version at £90+) it's a huge long thing with very different proportions - compare the model here or here. |
