Not an Opel but a Ford Cortina Mk.II ![]() |

Agreed. Rear panel trim and Fern Green colour suggests it is a 1968+ Super. A nice find. |

But a 1968+ version would have had sidemarkers, wouldn't it? |

Rear trim chrome strips definitely not fitted before September 1968; also introduced at the same time within the mid-life face lift were a black backwash to the radiator grille and small F O R D lettering across bonnet and boot ends (picture too fuzzy for the lettering to show). Fern Green was - I think - also introduced at this point - Ford had problems with metallics which took time to resolve before they could launch (even then they had subsequent problems with flaking on silver and blue metallics - another story for another day?). Edit: US Cortinas did not have F O R D lettering after Sept 68. So the question becomes one about sidemarkers and their implimentation, not the car's date. -- Last edit: 2011-12-12 18:22:37 |

Sounds very convincing ![]() I guess we can list it ass 'made for USA' by the all-red taillights, right? |

http://www.enfostuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1664 says 35,000 Cortinas sold in US in 1968. |

Side stripes identify a GT and extra chrome on rear panel for 69my US spec GT. side marker lights on saloon front wing only untill '70 when fitted to rear wing. but estates had front/rear marker from start. Quite A popular import in US finally killed off by Pinto. |

Would 69+ GT also have black rear panel? |

Black rear panel and repositioned 'GT' side stripe on late '69 1970my spec |

GT wing shields? |

Rethink on this one, not sure now if it has a lower GT side stripe, it could be shadow and i cant see evidence of extra pod on dash. if not GT then must be a deluxe as no super designation in US. still 69 spec because of extra trim. |

This one's always puzzled me slightly as well. It was the first Sept 68 onwards US Mk2 I found on the site so lodged in my mind. My impression - though no hard evidence - then was that the Mk2 was sold fairly heavily in US in 67 and 68 but then pulled for 69 onwards, though we've since found a trickle of 69s. The lack of sidemarkers led to a big discussion on another page /vehicle.php?id=246328 and I was also puzzled by the lack of boot letters (but you've explained that elsewhere). It also looks a shiny and static placed-in-shot car rather than a real one. |

Front marker light is not seen here because wing chopped in photo,i think this one is an early 69my for trim detail, extra brightwork added on rear panel for deluxe and GT for this year. late 69 would also see rear side marker light added and black panel as mentioned above. and the GT intrument pod i mentioned above was of course not fitted for '69. ill comment on the rover on its own page. |
