Looks like a hack job 1971/72 Chevrolet Chevelle with 1970 front end... |
◊ 2010-08-22 01:42 |
I'm annoyed too that they'd use a '70 front-end and '71/'72 rear. It seems a bit.. corny. |
◊ 2010-08-22 02:23 |
So.....how do we list it? |
◊ 2010-08-22 02:26 |
Since the front end is easily interchange with older model, we can list this as 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS modified. Comments? |

Works for me. |

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS [With 1971 Rear Lights] |
◊ 2010-09-14 16:04 |
That is why I requested 1971 model year because the front end are easily interchanged. |

I am really sick of people wrecking classic cars in movies |
◊ 2010-10-07 13:08 |
Just boycott/ignore them. It makes you feel better and you don't waste your time. -- Last edit: 2010-10-07 13:21:36 |

I disagree. In the case of the early 70's Chevelles, the rear end its more likely to be interchange than the front. In the movie its a 1970 chevelle with the rear bumper of the 71-72. |
◊ 2010-10-15 07:18 |
I agree with you. Its a 1970 Chevelle with a rear bumper/rear lights exchange. I have a 1977 Chevy Opala with the front grill of the 1978. I cant called it a 1978 just because the front end can be easily exchanged. |

Also looks like amateur paint.Almost like black primer. |
◊ 2010-10-20 02:29 |
Seems like it might be the same Chevelle used in the movie "Speed Demon." It was also a black 1971-1972 with 1970 front sheetmetal. As for wrecking it...it seems like the Chevelle has turned into *the* car to crash in movies now. I guess there aren't enough cheap Chargers left. |

You are quite right, Skid. /vehicle_27740-Chevrolet-Chevelle-SS-1970.html |

The debate on this page was mentioned in the Washington Post's movie review: "'Faster' works best as an ode to the awesome power of the Chevrolet Chevelle SS. (Debate rages on the Internet Movie Cars Database about whether it's a 1970, a '71 or some unholy mashup of the two.)" From the sound of it, this is at least a four star car. http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/movies/faster,1097056/critic-review.html |

Four stars. |

In the final edit of the movie, there is no crash |

Lord have mercy.... for the old US muscle cars!!! |
◊ 2011-03-04 23:55 |
Lord have Mercy for the Crown Vics. Who cares that car was prolly on its last leg anyway |
◊ 2011-03-08 03:51 |
The satin paint job is intentional. |
◊ 2011-03-30 01:04 |
So in other words they wrecked a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle for no good reason now I am really pissed -- Last edit: 2011-03-30 01:18:23 (atom) |

was the 70 front end even an option frm the dealer in 71? |
◊ 2011-04-03 03:36 |
That car is already 39 years old at time of the filming. There is no such as 1970 front end option for the 1971 model year |
◊ 2011-05-30 22:40 |
The actual body and vin belong to a 72. It is titled as a 72. It has aftermarket 70 front end parts. I know this to be correct because I now own this car. Or at least one of the three used in the movie. |
◊ 2011-08-26 01:37 |
Whats even worse is I think they used the same car in an episode of the TV show Justified. Keep this in mind too guys....you can get a complete shell from dynacorn now so it should save a few muscle cars. There is a company out of Northridge Ca. Called Picture Car Warehouse. The owner is trying to get these studios to be more respectful when it comes to destroying classics. He would rather wreck a wreck then destroy a salvageable car... Just wanted to let you guy's know |
◊ 2011-08-27 02:58 |
what i mean is were the front ends interchangable? and if so, how would you get the parts? from the dealer or from an aftermarket company? |
◊ 2011-08-27 19:44 |
Or you can buy parts from auto graveyard |
◊ 2011-08-27 19:50 |
Not worse, than 59 Chevy with front of 57 one. |
◊ 2011-11-22 07:13 |
This is just my opinion but I think its a '71-'72 with a '70 clip. The only person who will know for sure what year it is would be the movies transportation director. |
◊ 2012-02-11 22:25 |
I'm pretty sure it's a '71/72 with a '70 front end because the front fenders don't have side markers. |

I'm finally sitting through this movie... Quick note though: this car is NOT an SS, at least not according to the scene at 6:39. Granted I haven't seen the movie, but the sweeping speedometer we look through to see The Rock was never available on an SS. While you could say "Oh they just replaced the gauge cluster with a sweeping dash", I find it very unlikely since putting SS badges on a plain jane Chevell would be easier than intentionally putting the wrong speedometer. Now I have to finish watching the movie :-p Edited for the following: I also think it's awesome how this car has yellow and blue plates. For those of you outside of California, that means the license plate 279 PCE is probably the plate this car was originally equipped with. In California, the plates are assigned to a vehicle NOT the owner as is often the case in both America and abroad. If anyone of you are law enforcement, or have a buddy in the CHP they can probably track that car down using the plate and tell you the where/when/who/what about this car's registration and ownership history. @Nightrider - You're talking about Chezoom, penned by Thom Tayler and built by Boyd Coddington. It is indeed a horrible looking car, it looked good on paper but didn't translate to a 1:1 version very well at all. -- Last edit: 2012-04-04 22:26:15 |

Its even worse when they put the front end of a 1970 Challenger on a 1973 Challenger! /vehicle_341121-Dodge-Challenger-1973.html |
◊ 2012-12-02 03:19 |
This is a 1971 Chevelle, and it is not an SS. The front end was changed to a 1970 because they wanted 4 headlights for all the night shots. |
◊ 2015-08-08 08:27 |
It is awesome. the most epic chevelle ever (than the one from fast and furious) but still awesome. |
◊ 2016-02-16 22:04 |
I am pretty sure that this is the same car /vehicle_27740-Chevrolet-Chevelle-1970.html and maybe also this one /vehicle_468020-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Malibu-1971.html -- Last edit: 2016-02-27 03:19:43 |

This is definitely the best Chevelle 1971 I have ever seen. According to the pics people have uploaded. |
◊ 2019-10-11 18:21 |
I don't know why people are complaining about the Chevelle, considering that it didn't even get destroyed or heavily wrecked in the movie. If anything, the Ferrari ended up with more damage than the Chevelle. |

Hey theepirate, knightrider said a 59 with a 57 nose not a 57. |
