Were generally all Mini's in Italy made by Innocenti or was there an import from Britain? |

This is a 1970 Innocenti Mini Cooper Mk3. Austin and Morris Minis were both imported untill mid 1961. After that only Morris versions, which became in smaller numbers after the introduction of the Innocenti version in November 1965 (The latter cost about the half, due to the fact that UK cars were taxed as extra EEC goods...). Of course Morris disappeared in late '69 when even the new Minis were imported in very limited numbers until late 1972. No UK Minis were available between late '72 and late '74 when only the Clubman Estate was reimported, joined for few months in the summer of '76 by the 850 and 1000 saloons. Then again only the Estate untill mid 1981. In the Spring of 1982 The Mini saloons were reimported in a two versions and later the range was espanded until the demise in 2000. Yes, only after spring 1973 and they gained the script "Export" on the rear, because British Leyland, which had bougth Innocenti in 1972 decided so. There were a few actually exported to almost evry European Community country of the time, except UK and Eire. I've seen with French, Spanish, Dutch and Danish plate |

Ah, yes, I remember, that recently there was written something about them in a classic car-magazine. The Italian made Mini's were in better quality or better equipped, if I remember correctly. |

Mhhh, maybe, nothing supelative anyway about quality if you mean rust... Ah: I remember that The new shaped Innocenti Mini of the mid 70's was seen by me even with Austrian and belgian plate. I remeber a movie contained in imcdb with a yellow Innocenti Mini 1001 with German plate (maybe fake but from Karlsruhe = KA)titled in Italy "la Dama rossa uccide sette volte" but not yet recorded in imcdb... -- Last edit: 2010-08-14 12:08:11 |

i think there was also a brief episode in about 1970-71 when the Innocenti Cooper S was tried in the UK, just after the Clubman-based 1275 GT replaced the UK Cooper S. Some RHD Innocenti Cooper Ss were test-marketed, but not continued after the first batch. As ingo suggests, Innocentis were slightly better equipped than UK equivalents - had wind-up windows a few years before Uk and other detail improvements. |

They had swing-up windows AFTER the UK Minis (since March 1970), but, since the next November they were fitted with vent windows, unavailable in UK, but visible only in some versions of the Australian Minis. |
