I think it's a CJ-2. I don't see indents for military tools on the side, so that would mean it's not a MB or GPW. CJ-3s had taller hoods for a different engine. |

The thumbnail is definitive CJ2A. The "top bow stowage brackets" on the drivers side are unique to the CJ2. The CJ3A had the same hood line but a taller rounded edge windshield, while the CJ3B had the high hood and again a different windshield. |

we currently have the CJ-2, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, and CJ-3B models listed as such, and again as Jeep CJ-2, Jeep CJ-2A, Jeep CJ-3A, and Jeep CJ-3B. should we be adding "Jeep" in front of those that don't currently have it so that they combine..? |

For this site I would suggest "Willys Jeep CJ-2A" etc.. for the 2A 3A 3B early 5 and 6 models (actual CJ2 not 2A were very limited and extremely rare). Unless the year is specific enough to note major changes such as an "AMC Jeep" for the 7 & 8 or "Chrysler Jeep", Willys Jeep covers the basics. More commonly would be simply JEEP CJ(?). Regarding the military models, WILLYS MA, MB, M38, M38A1, M170 would be correct. The military unit was a "Willys military Jeep" where the civilian models were "Willys Universal Jeeps" later "Jeep Universal" different from "Jeep Pickup" or "Station Wagon". Very complicated... Books have been written covering the many ownership changes of "JEEP" from Willys-Overland, Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler plus the international builders such as IKA, Brazilian Rural Willys etc... over the past 70 years. Even when owned by multiple companies it was still referred to as a WILLYS JEEP for many years. Complicated to say the least. Non of the WWII period were Jeep, but rather "jeep". Only after a long court battle around 1945-46 was "Jeep" trademarked by Willys and Jeeps were so called. Hope this helps somewhat... |

ok... i went through and cleaned up the CJ-2 through CJ-3B as suggested by adding the "Jeep" into the model names of those that were lacking so that they matched the others and combined as needed. much cleaner. the Willys CJ-5 and CJ-6 were already all together, and in that format. i also put a few straggling MB 'Jeep' captures that were listed slightly differently into that specific phrasing, since that was already the standard. there are a couple examples that were listed as "Willys" for the brand and simply "Jeep" model. i commented about those below, as they can be something more specific i'm sure... but wasn't totally sure as to what. i agree that the later Jeeps should probably be listed just as such, rather than Chrysler or AMC as branding... MOST have been, but there are some CJ-5, CJ-6, and CJ-7 models listed under AMC. should those be moved to the Jeep brand to match with the majority..?  |

Simply "Jeep" is correct and informative and would be more organized for the site. The AMC era for the CJ line was from 1972-1986 and easily identified by the longer front cap if the photo affords such a view. To list the early models as "Willys Jeep" and the later models as "AMC Jeep" would be more accurate but not always identifiable. Listing them as Jeep is fine with me. Others may have stronger opinions about the Wrangler YJ series and Chrysler's role??? |

i'll "fix" the (relatively few) CJ-5 through CJ-8 trucks currently listed as AMC such that they join the rest of the "Jeeps". should some (or all) of the CJ-5 and CJ-6 trucks listed as Willys be moved to the Jeep brand, or are they better where they are..? as for the YJ era, i've had several throughout the year range, and never felt any brand loyalty to Chrysler in the process. i doubt anyone would want those listed a Chryslers in any case. |

Keeping it simple would list the CJ5 & CJ6 as "JEEP". Ownership changed from Willys-Overland to Willys Motors Inc to Kaiser-Willys to Kaiser-Jeep Corporation to AMC-Jeep, however JEEP was always the line and the other reflected corporate ownership. International production gets more complicated but again JEEP is consistent. |

ok... cleaned up. i'm sure there's lots of fine tuning to be done one at a time, but it's far more cohesive than it was. one thing that i did notice, is that the number of "Dispatchers" listed as "Jeep DJ-5A Dispatcher", and the number listed as "AM-General DJ-5 Dispatcher", is almost the same. is one more correct than the other, and should they be combined one way or the other, or are they best left as they are..? |
