basic model. Really basic.

There you had to pay extra (at least in Germany) for getting real inner door handles (otherwise you had the handles, other VW's had under the roof), a right sun visor, a right door-lock etc...

And for an electric window-washer pump. Standard was a rubber-knob for the foot besides the clutch-pedal.

I think, a glovebox-flap was also for extra charge.

Untill April 1978 in Italy only the very basic Polo 895 cc standard Ausstattung was available. Otherwise You had to buy an Audi 50. As the latter died, then came the 895 L, the 1100 LS and GLS.
After December 1979, only the 895 L was available, untill in late 1980 (with a year of delay) was addet the 1300 GT version. Funny policy.

Maybe this was the reason, why Italy was the main export market for the Audi 50. A friend, probably the world's hardest Audi 50-freak, always go to Italy to find spare parts and collectibles.
For him it makes sense to visit Italian oldtimer-markets, but less for me. :( No reason to be anxious, that I could miss something - surely the Italian choice is controlled for me by Christian. ;)

If you can find me an Audi 50 oldtimer without rust, preferably in Miami Blue, let me know Ingo. :)

At best ask Christian directly: http://www.audi-50.de/index_inline.htm ;)

Or let us look there: http://www.malmedyoldtimerbourse.be/ Is it worth to go there? I'm thinking about a visit.

Ok, thanks for the links. I know they were made of extra thin sheet steel so it's almost scary to own one again. I'm not in a hurry, but I never see any for sale.

No, not extra thin steel. It's the same 0.8 and 0.7-material as it was used for other cars in that time, too. The construction and so the weight is light, this is true. Lightweight-construction was an important intention for Ludwig Kraus and his team. They started with it with the first Audi 80.

Sure, the rust-protection ws typical for the 70ies - not existing. Otherwise, the few suvivors today will be live on with a correct anti-rust-conservation.

Thank You. I didn't know Italy was the main export market for the Audi 50.
The strange and nice coincidence is that it was the successor of the NSU Prinz 4, whose 90 % of the last years production was exported to Italy...

I love that car( Audi 50), expecially in Miamiblau or Cliffgrün

Indeed, the good success of the Italy-export was the reason, why the Prinz 4 was produced until 1973. The "NSU-Killer" was the Fiat 127. When it came on the Italian market, the selling of the Prinz 4 collapsed and due that the production was stopped.

Christian and other Audi 50-freaks are calling their car "Prinz 5", because it's indeed the direct successor.

Here's one for sale now: http://fr.kapaza.be/belgique/audi-50-51556042.htm

€ 4500,- Appears well restored, but resprayed and customized. Also registered as oldtimer so no annual inspection.

Hmmn, as I'm an "Originalo-Fetischist" I'm always sceptic with "restored" and especially tuned cars. :/ 4500 € is lot a of money for a normally low-priced 70ies car.
I'll ask the boss. ;)

P.S. What shall be the sense of the US-plate? It'sa model, which was definetely never exported to America. I think, except to the French Oversea-Departements and the Dutch colonies (can you say "colony" to the ABC-islands and Suriname?)

I got his opinion: if it's an orignal car, it could be from March to June 1976 (colour, flat back window, old-style badge on the trunk). The tuning-kit is not liked much. If it has a good, original interior and the condition is inside and underneath, as the pictures are showing it from the outside, 3000-3500 € could be acceptable.

Thanks for asking, I'll let it pass. Mostly because of the tasteless tuning but I don't intend to buy one now to keep inside for the winter.

... for the moment I'm happy with this: :)

The tuning seems not to be a problem here, as the owner obviously asn't cobbled in the body-structure. You can remove the wheels and exhaust-system and even make some money with it by selling it.
