[Comment copied through] Blue with white roof is a unique scheme for the Oct 72 Top Hat special edition based on the 1500 Super Automatic. Additional info: the Top Hat was very short-lived with 2 main problems (1) it was automatic only which for a UK small car was a very good way of ensuring nobody would buy one unless they were at least 70 years old (2) despite its rich Electric Blue metallic paint, the white vinyl roof became a standing joke - "it's just not British" and there were birdshit issues. The only other UK model to have a white roof was the similarly metallic "Uranium blue" Ford Zephyr Special, based on the 2.5L Mk4 6 deluxe, and announced in Oct 71 in an edition of 1000 to clear out the remaining models before Zephyr production stopped a month later - pictures at http://www.simoncars.co.uk/ford/zephyr4.html ; haven't found an example yet on imdcb, but we can all be vigilant. "The Complete History Of UK Cars With White Vinyl Roofs" (film rights still available) is completed by its brief appearance as an option for 1972 my Cortina GXLs and a few pimpmobile Silver Shadows. Corgi Vanguards made a nice model of the Avenger Top Hat (# VA10403) and an Evergreen Cortina GXL with white roof (# VA10307). -- Last edit: 2011-10-16 01:40:38 |
