Here's a thing - I reckon, Ford designers today actually look back at the early Escorts for inspiration. Look at the door handles on the mk1 Focus and compare them with those on the mk1 Escort. Also, the wat that the headlights are larger than the grille is a defining feature on 60s/70s Fords. Also, the round tail lights on the mk2 2nd shape of Mondeo are reminiscient of the ban-the-bomb tail-lights on the mk1 Cortina. The mk2 Escort was not really any more advanced than the mk1, just a different shape - this is echoed in the mk1 and mk2 Focus - look at the C-pillar on the mk2 Focus and the mk2 Escort - very similar. Really like this new ST, the way it is restrained and the option of side stripes. Pity it uses a Volvo engine rather than a blue oval mill though. |
