This was a very lucky shot. I still hate not knowing the model. -- Last edit: 2010-10-09 21:20:38 |

Maybe. There's a fansite claiming the Fort Washington Fire Company in Pennsylvania was involved. http://www.netreach.net/~sixofone/ttwa.htm I'm trying to get on the site so I can find out if they have anything on their past apparatus, but my PC won't let me get there. UPDATE:Fort Washington Fire Company says this is a '54: http://www.fortwashingtonfc.org/main.asp?curid=218 It doesn't mention the model, though. One of us is going to have to e-mail the department to see if anyone there still knows. -- Last edit: 2010-10-15 03:23:47 |

The first link Ddey posted has a counter the lists visitors to the site by each state in the U.S plus the District of Columbia. |

And the second link, I'm sending an e-mail to right now, with the link to this truck. |

GMC HC-Series. |

"HC-Series" model year actual range is 1949-59, with no external change between the model years. Both links given by Ddey65 are dead ends now, so if nobody has another avenue for the assumed 1954 my, ⇒ 1949 GMC HC-Series? -- Last edit: 2015-02-03 00:19:24 |

My mistake. The cab was the one used by the New Design truck line, and models smaller than the 900-Series gained indeed the single-piece windshield in 1954-55. |

1954 or early 1955 (As eLMeR noted - small cab with one-piece windshield) 620 or 630 Series. The 620 at this time was available only as the model 620-36 (360 engine). The 630 was available as the model 630-36, 630-42, or 630-50 (360, 426, or 503 engine). There were many firetrucks built in '54-'55 on the 630-50 chassis (largest, most powerful engine option) and I would assume that is what we have here. A 660 and 670 Series was also available in '54-'55 but the rear axle for those was a double-reduction type - not what you'd want or need for a quick-responding firetruck. |

Models smaller than 700 Series (100-600) have the small "Chevrolet" cab with one-piece windshield for '54-early'55. (And of course, the "new" small cab for late '55 continued to have a one-piece curved windshield.) The 700 Series only lasted through 1953 production and had the large, "GMC-only" cab (always a two-piece windshield design) along with the 800 and 900 Series. -- Last edit: 2022-11-19 04:23:59 |
