Made for US, I guess? |

No, US models had a different boot with small plate holder: /vehicle_343356-Mercedes-Benz-SLK-R170.html |

Funny...why would the VIN lie? Maybe it's just the Russian plate stuck over the American recess as usual... -- Last edit: 2016-11-03 21:44:19 |

Again, you may please post the VINs |

The handle would be much shorter in that case. There were also no US SLKs until September 1997. It was a 1998 model there and not even an early one. |

But it has US side markers ![]() Link to "autonumber.av100.ru" And per VIN... 251 - RADIO MB - EXQUISIT - USA 461 - INSTRUMENT WITH MILES IND. AND ENGLISH LEGEND 494 - U.S. VERSION VIN no. is WDBKK47F1WF006432 And on Wiki, the US SLK has no white side markers, as opposed to the subject car: Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" Edit: This one does: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/1st_Mercedes-Benz_SLK.jpg Wiki also states that the first US SLK was built in November 1996 and went on sale in January 1997 for the 1998 MY, but I'll stay with your facts. (January 1997 was even before the 1998 model year started!) @Sandie: When I checked the VIN, I remember this tidbit which confused me: Complicated, complicated... -- Last edit: 2016-11-03 22:07:05 |

US VIN format, supported by SA code 494, so US model indeed (if the car has its own plate), 1998 Model year, made at Bremen plant |

Maybe a weird error on the site and the delivery date was actually December 1997? Bootlid can be a replacement. -- Last edit: 2016-11-03 22:16:31 |

If Wiki is correct they went on sale January 1997, as you said above, relax, that covers the 1998 model year by definition. Verified by the VIN. They just started the first builds a little early. |

Ha, my source was also Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_SLK-Class#The_SLK_in_the_USA |

From the same page on Wikipedia: 'The very first U.S.-market R170 Mercedes SLK was completed on November 1, 1996 and went on sale in January 1997 for the 1998 model year' and 'The SLK was announced to the USA market on Sept. 7, 1997 as a 1998 model.' Well, at least they agree on the 1998 model year.... |

Don't forget to add the reason this whole debate started - the made for US tag. ![]() |

I've found nothing to prove otherwise |

Verified using the MB decoder. Yes, to all above. USA model, built December of 1996 for the 1998 MY. Build sheet added in Gamer's first comment so that way it is visible first. |
