325i? |

Left car is a Maserati? Isn't that interesting? |

or De Tomaso? |

Looks like a Maserati Quattroporte to the left (and I believe the car on the right is a VW Scirocco) |

Isn't there a better view of these two cars? As they are both not so common in movies (and I really like both ) |

320i? That does look like a zero. |

As far as I can tell, North America didn't get an E30 320. It seem that the only two available in '84-'85 were the 318i and the 325e. |

This is the only other picture I have. You don't see the other cars any clearer than this in that scene. I just thought the car on the lift was the Audi from a later scene (but that wouldn't make sense since the Audi was impounded earlier). -- Last edit: 2006-05-26 06:23:24 |

I'll list the two cars with that picture then |

In response to your previous comment Ralph, the awd E30 was only labeled as ix, not xi. The xi badge didn't start until the late 90's in the US. |

i think it was early 90's for the ix.....i wanted one but ended up with an 86 similar to above that was just a 325e. still one of my most favorite cars that i've owned. |

Ahight, the 1st year for an AWD BMW in the US was 1988. It was the 325ix, E30 body-style. It only came as a 2-door manual. From `89-`91 either 2 or 4-door was avail. Since US sales stunk suprisingly, the ix was no longer available. The cost of an ix, was close to the cost of an M3! It wasn't until several years later (late 90's) that US cutomers were craving an AWD 3-series. The E46 brought it back with the 325xi and 330xi. |

Interesting infos, Adrian. I thought that the E30 325ix wasn't exported to USA... I love the E30...I will buy one! My brother had a white 316i 2-door... Then, the E36 wasn't ever available with AWD, that returned on the E46, called xi. A question: what was the first 3-Series Touring sold in America? |

Benny, the 1st touring 3 in the US was the E46. BMW claims US customers are over the wagon thing, and like their SUV's - the same goes for hatchbacks - which is why they are hesitating bringing the 1-series to the US (although many BMW CCA members are craving the 1's). Yeah, the 325ix is fairly rare. I've seen two in the last five years. |

I agree with Hecubus on his identification of the 2 cars. |

The 325e was a 325 tuned for fuel economy rather than performance. It was less powerful than the 325i even though it was equipped with a large displacement engine than the 325i. |
