This shot has been flipped for some reason, since the license plate is mirrored and the driver is on the correct side.![]() "EKA ..." ![]() |

I'm out of my depth with cars this old, even Minxes, but Sept 1939 onwards Phase 1 looks similar and was offered with a drophead coupe commissioned from Carbodies. Apparently despite the onset of WW2, 10,000 Phase 1s (saloons, dhc, and Commer-badged estates) were produced until November 42 and then resumed in 45. -- Last edit: 2010-11-07 18:56:55 |

EKA is March 1938 Liverpool issue. The car is a 1938 Hillman Minx Magnificent Tourer. This model had a seperate chassis and ran from 1935 to 1939 with a facelift in 1938 which is as shown. It was replaced by the Phase I monocoque cars, which were of quite similar appearance. These were not placed upon general sale until 1945, as civilian car production stopped due to WW2. However some 10,000 cars were built for such users as doctors. We had a well worn Minx Magnificent in the family in the late 1950s, which caught fire due to a short circuit in the horn wiring. -- Last edit: 2010-11-07 19:09:33 |
