The crease in the door says 1938 but the grille says 1939. It also looks to be a long wheelbase model. Maybe one of those built in Eastern Europe somewhere - it has been mentioned on this site - was it Roumania? |

This is a real puzzling car.The grille , hood louvres and headlights resting on the front fender wells point to a 1939 front clip , whereas the crease in the door and low mounted rear lights are of 1937/38 vintage .In any case it is a long wheelbase Chevrolet Imperial ( 134 in.)7 passenger sedan that Chevrolet built with a divided propeller shaft , 1/2 ton truck rear axle and 6.25 X 16 tires for commercial taxi as well as private use .I have a document of a 1937 and of a 1939 car produced by GM in Antwerp Belgium .The 1939 car of which there must be a survivor in Belgium does not show the crease in the door and has the rear lights mounted outboard at half trunk height as was the case on 1939 models.I suspect a 1938 car having been updated with a 1939 front clip or less probably assembled from parts of both years |
