C'est en effet une Tiger de 1965 avec ses baguettes chromées, son monogramme "Tiger" et son V8 Ford de 4,2litres! |

The Sunbeam Tiger is based on the Alpine but didn't use 'Alpine' as part of the name. The versions are: Mk.I : June 64 to Aug 65 Mk.Ia : Aug 65 to Dec 66 Mk.II : Dec 66 to Jun 67 As it is a 1965 TV series this must be a Mk.I. |

Depending on what "litterature" you consider Alexander, in mine it says "Alpine Tiger" but maybe yours is more accurate on that point? -- Last edit: 2005-12-04 18:18:37 |

Maybe it depends on the country? I remember that the Alpine name is not owned by the same companies in all countries... |

Not necessarily! I usually check the marque clubs, as in book I usually find a lot of mistakes. Web-pages are easier to maitain and correct, if needed. They certainly owned the rights in the UK, else they hadn't used those names at all. But it might be a different story for France with the Renault Alpines on the market. |

I've read that there was also the opposite problem: Renault cannot sell Alpine in UK since Alpine is not their property there... -- Last edit: 2005-12-04 18:43:44 |

This car was the lead charactor's (Maxwell Smart) car for the first few years of the show. It should have 4 stars. The car was known as a sunbeam tiger in most countries. I beleive in one european country (perhaps Germany) it was called an Alpine V8 due to ownership rights to the Tiger name there. |

Could be the Messerschmitt Tiger, the very fast 4-wheel version of the plexiglass-roof bubblecar? |

The car was modifed by Gene Winfield with a gun that pops iup from the hood and other comic touches. See pg. 159 of The Legendary Custom Cars and Hot Rods of Gene Winfield by David Grant. 2008 Motrorbooks. -- Last edit: 2010-08-29 07:30:40 |

Also the one in /vehicle_357276-Volkswagen-Karmann-Ghia-Typ-14.html - some of these do'nt have whitewalls, so probably a different car. |

The sunbeam tiger was sold as the alpine 260 and alpine 289 (for the mkii tiger) in Europe. For get smart they used a tiger for normal schemes the cars used in stunts and crashes etc tended to be alpine doubles with a couple of tiger details. The car with ram over riders and engine bay mounted popup gun was an alpine as the tiger engine bay was to crowded for the mechanism. |
