They said it was/is the worst convertible ever made. And I think they´re right. BTW: This car was the replacement vehicle in the "Three Wise Men" episode. |

Oh, there were worse Convertibles - the Kadett E-based Cabriolet was also a rust-bucket. Even worse were Fiat-made Cabriolets, Ritmo and Punto. All Astra F and the other Opels of the early/mid-90ies are made in junky quality. It were the horrible "Lopez-Years", where the supplier's-prices and the production-costs, and due that the quality, were pressed violently down. The second factor was, that in that years, in the Opel-top-management were sitting several US-managers, who tried to trim Opel to the US-way of GM: higher production-output, no high-tech, combinated with low-quality-material. This became a desaster for Opel in Germany. The repuation collapsed, and Opel-cars were seen as junk-quality like Fiat, Daewoo or Lada. The classic German car-buyer is still a bit oldfashioned about the repuation of a car-brand. So for Opel he always has this 1950ies-slang in the head's back: http://www.alt-opel.eu/shop2/show_det.php?det=65&nav=10&rb=9 When Opel couldn't confirm this expectation any more, they lost heavily market-share. But similar happend with Volkswagen (Sn.Lopez had been there, too ![]() |

Ford Escort MKV Convertible for me was the worst convertible ever made. The standard car was bad enough but add the scuttle shake from the body not being strengthen properly and the fact it was the car of choice of chavvy Essex hairdressers and you have a pretty terrible car. |

James made up carol about it, when Jeremy's MX5 broke down: "We three Kings of Orient are, one in a Vauxhall, and two in sports cars." Even though it's an Opel. -- Last edit: 2021-10-19 01:44:36 |

Don’t think the 30/98 owners would agree. -- Last edit: 2022-05-30 14:21:15 |
