This scene was based on the death of armed robber, Graeme Jensen who was shot by members of the Victoria Police Armed Robbery Squad during an arrest attempt in Narre Warren, Victoria on the afternoon of the 11th October 1988.

Jensen was a friend of Victor Pierce and member of the Flemington Armed Robbery Crew, a gang of bank robbers responsible for several violent bank robberies in Melbourne from late 1987 to early 1988.

At the time of his death, Jensen was under surveillance by the Victoria Police Armed Robbery Squad for the murder of a Armaguard officer, Dominic Hefti who was shot during an armed robbery at a supermarket in Brunswick, Victoria on the morning of the 11th July 1988.

Hefti later died in hospital two days later, leaving behind his wife and their two-year-old son, the detectives at the time had mistakenly believed that Jensen was involved in the robbery and the murder as blood spots found at the scene was believed to be Jensen's and had been named by witnesses who saw the armed robbery and Hefti being shot.

On the day of his death, Jensen was spotted by the detectives getting into his blue Holden Commodore Station Wagon (bearing Victoria registration ATO-098) and leaving a house that he shared with his girlfriend and her son to go down to a local hardware store to get a part for a lawn mower.

The detectives followed Jensen to the store where their plan was to blocked Jensen as he was about leave, but one of the unmarked police cars got blocked by passing traffic, this allowed Jensen to make his escape and as the officers pulled beside Jensen's vehicle, the detectives got out and went to arrest him.

But Jensen saw this and floored his vehicle in reverse and went to make his getaway, leading to a police chase where he clipped a parked Holden Kingswood and one of the unmarked police cars.

During the chase, one detective shouted, "He's got a gun" and fired his shotgun at Jensen's car, shattering the Commodore Station Wagon's rear window and fatally wounding Jensen in the back of the head.

As Jensen died, the car jumped the curb, crashed into a street sign and into a telegraph pole.

Upon the examination of Jensen's Commodore after his death, detectives found a sawn-off rifle in the front footwell of the vehicle, on the driver's side next to Jensen's foot, it was believed by members of the Melbourne Underworld that the rifle was planted by detectives of the Victoria Police Armed Robbery Squad.
