Funeral version - or were these stretches used by government departments as well?

I don't know but I doubt it. This just appears in the title sequence, I don't know who was in it.

I'm pretty sure the govt used these.

I have definitely seen it somewhere before. Probably on this base.

AFAIK the government never used stretch Jaguars, just regular LWB models when they became available. Nowadays, of course, they're armoured.

XJ1200 from Eagle I believe.

Jaguar or Daimler? Or could it be either? So XJ1200 is a legitimate model name? Where does it come from?

Eagle became Wilcox - see http://www.limousines.co.uk/index.ihtml . Lots of fun to browse - try the used section to find XJ1200 which seems only to be Daimler for XJ40 conversions. Amongst the various delights are stretched Vectras and "hearsettes" which is a new category for me, and an amazing Insignia hearse - http://www.limousines.co.uk/insignia.ihtml - against which a Ssangyong Rodius looks attractive. The Sbarro of the hearse world??

Most of these stretched mourners cars aren't very appealing and it's hard to imagine anyone wanting them for anything other than funerals. They're not like stretched Lincoln and Cadillac limousines, which used to have a certain appeal with their TVs and drinks cabinets (before they became easily available to hire for nights out and school proms) these just have extra seats and look a bit odd. I can't imagine politicians using these because they'd look a bit daft.

And yes, some of these new hearse conversions are plain ugly. No wonder some funeral directors still like to use Daimler DS420s.

A bizarrely proportioned Rover 75 Hearse: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2615/3735244694_27c07fdec1.jpg

There were some monsters beforehand too. Sadly I cannot find a good shot of a Montego hearse.

The Montego was an extremely bland car anyway. I don't understand why some of them are so high.
